Better than a Land Rover Defender, a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon or a Ford Bronco: this Scottish SUV is looking for war

More capable than a Ford Bronco Raptor, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon or GMC Hummer EV. This is the high-flying claim made by Munro Vehicles, the Scottish manufacturer that is about to introduce its first electric SUV to the world: Munro MK_1.

They have had to spend more than four decades for the European engine to have in its ranks a manufacturer (volume) with the flag of Scotland. The Munro MK_1 It does not arrive to rival the Tesla Model X or the Rivian R1S, He does it to go down into the mud with rivals like the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, Ford Bronco Raptor, Land Rover Defender or Toyota Land Cruiser.

When Munro discovered the initial sketches it was inevitable to recognize Shapes very similar to those of the previous generation Land Rover Defender. This electric SUV has been designed to face the most demanding terrain in the most reliable and sustainable way possible. So much so that they promise low maintenance costs and easy repairs: for this they have opted for the extensive use of existing components.

On par with its rivals

However, the most remarkable thing about that square body is its off-road dimensions. The Munro MK_1 has a free height to the ground of 48 centimeters, an angle of entry of 38 degrees and one of exit of 51 degrees; the brand has not provided information on the ventral angle. Its wading depth is 80 centimeters: a figure somewhat lower than that of some of its rivals, we imagine that due to the location of the battery.

Let’s go by parts: its ground clearance is 20.3 centimeters higher than that of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and 15.2 centimeters higher than that of the Ford Bronco Raptor. Its angles surpass the Land Rover Defender, the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Suzuki Jimny: only the Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6 would surpass it.

There is still no technical information on its mechanical schematic, but Munro claims that it will be a “high-efficiency, state-of-the-art electric motor with a high torque (700 Nm is said), which will go together with a solidly proven 4×4 mechanical transmission”. Rumors point to a range of 270 kilometers, which would allow it to operate for up to 16 hours on a single charge: it would also be capable of supporting a payload of 1,000 kilos and a towing capacity of 3,500 kilos.
