The hybrid SUV, with a new engine and cheaper price, for which it is worth waiting for 2023

The closer and closer 2023 will bring great news to the Peugeot range and more specifically to its SUV offer. For the first time in the history of Peugeot we will be able to buy one of its cars associated with a microhybrid gasoline enginean interesting novelty that will arrive in 2023 for the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 models. With this launch, the range of both SUVs will be clearly improved, as in addition to offering new hybrid versions with their corresponding ECO label, they will also have a lower purchase price than current plug-in hybrid powertrains.

In Peugeot they have proposed to stand up once and for all to the extensive hybrid range of brands such as Toyota, Honda, Hyundai or Kia. Although the French firm has been betting heavily on plug-in hybrids in this particular battle for some time, the truth is that a non-pluggable mechanical offer capable of reducing the cost of access to this type of technology was missing. And finally in 2023 Peugeot will put a solution of this type on the market.

By approach we are talking about a microhybrid system, however the 3008 and 5008 Mild Hybrid will be able to move in 100% electric mode

Peugeot has developed a new 1.2 turbo gasoline engine and microhybrid capable of developing a power of 136 HP and a maximum torque of 230 Nm. This engine is an evolution of the 3-cylinder 1.2 PureTech that the brand already uses in many other of its models, but in this update a 48-volt micro-hybrid system has been included that allows the thermal engine to be assisted in acceleration phases to reduce the consumption, recover energy during braking and even offer 100% electric autonomy at very low speed (starting off or manoeuvring). This configuration also adds a new 7-speed dual-clutch gearboxwhich a priori promises a better driving experience compared to the current EAT8 8-speed torque converter.

The electric motor of this mild hybrid scheme alone offers 29 CV, being powered by a lithium-ion battery with 0.9 kWh capacity, thus allowing the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 microhybrids to enjoy the ECO label in Spain.

The commercialization of this new hybrid motorization is scheduled for the middle of next 2023positioning itself in price well below the plug-in hybrid versions and clearly becoming the most interesting mechanics for both models. Even without confirming prices, we must expect that the prices of these mechanics will be one step above their non-hybridized versions, which would place the Peugeot 3008 microhybrid in the environment of 35,000 euros and to 5008 microhybrid in the environment of 37,000 euros.
