In Spain we will have an electric car with dream autonomy, but it will not be suitable for all pockets

The electric car currently has three problems: autonomy, price and charging infrastructure. And while these are not resolved, the electric one will not be able to curdle properly. But we are already seeing the first blows to establish this mobility by the hand of Lucid and the Air, a saloon that solves the first problem with 833 kilometers of autonomybut that this amalgamation remains unpolished with a price in France of 218,000 euros and with a charging network that does not depend on the brands.

And it is that at the moment, the functional electric car in broad strokes is the competence of the wealthiest pockets, since a good autonomy depends, fundamentally, on a worked aerodynamics and a large battery, a binomial that entails a high outlay. This leads to the fact that the most modest electric vehicles are not, not even remotely, as versatile as the Lucid Airalthough logically they do not imply such a price either.

The long autonomy of the Lucid Air comes with a high price

Be that as it may, it is also fair to indicate that we can lower the final bill of the American saloon hand in hand with more modest mechanical versions. In this way, the Air is put up for sale under the Pure, Touring, Grand Touring, Sapphire and Dream Edition versions, the latter being the one that has revealed its price in France and that is in limited production.

Thus, the Pure declares 480 CV and a range under the WLTP cycle of 653 kilometers; the Touring increases power to 620 hp and maintains autonomy; the Grand Touring offers 800 CV and 833 kilometers of autonomy and the Sapphire enjoys some lavish 1,200 CV and more than 600 kilometers of autonomy. And finally the Dream Edition, which “conforms” with a not inconsiderable 933 CV and 883 kilometers of autonomy.

all of it implies a disbursement in France of 218,000 euros, a figure that is equal to that requested by Lucid for its offspring in other countries. And it is that the Air implies an outlay of 218,000 euros, 181,000 euros in Norway, 222,000 euros in the Netherlands and 190,000 euros in Switzerland.

Spain, at the moment, is unexplored territory for Lucid, but taking into account its steady progress through Europe It’s only a matter of time before I arrive in these parts. It will do the same with its known versions and also with this Dream Edition. And although there are no prices, you can intuit a price for the special edition that plays with the range of 200,000 euros.

And although it is more than clear that it is a figure not suitable for ordinary mortals, How does the Lucid Air stack up against its rivals? First we find a Tesla Model S Plaid in Spain that declares 1,020 CV, 600 kilometers of autonomy and a price of 139,990 euros. Another direct rival would be the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, a variant that settles in Spain with a price of 194,168 euros, offers 761 CV and a more modest autonomy with 469 kilometers. And finally the Mercedes-Benz EQS, a sedan that in its 53 AMG variant develops 658 CV, can cover 560 kilometers under the WLTP cycle and entails a payment of 175,767 euros.
