Electric SUVs and 4×4 SUVs have become a reality within the automotive sector. With more or less logic, and for many good off-road skills that they present, weight and autonomy are their Achilles heel when it comes to facing 4×4 driving against a combustion SUV with locks and reduction. Or at least that’s how this Rivian R1S shows it, which got stuck and had to be rescued.
And it is that this event has been echoed by the Twitter account Rivian Stories, a kind of social network in which the owners of a Rivian tell their experiences that, sometimes are good, and in others they are not as pleasant as is the case.
Leaving with your electric 4×4 getaway is not always a good idea, and this Rivian proves it
Dan Czermak, owner of the R1S, found himself in this very unpleasant situation and had to ask for help to unblock it. And it is that he decided to go on an off-road adventure through an abandoned quarry full of mud and ice, a context that forced a Cartpillar excavator to go days later to rescue him.
And it is that although it is true that we are facing a full-fledged SUV, no matter how electric it is, it has an important Achilles heel. Thus, and although the Rivian R1S develops 750 CV thanks to four electric motors that are powered by a 135 kWh battery, it has a ground clearance of 38 centimeters, a wading capacity of 914 millimeters and 4×4 tires in this case, the weight does not forgive.
We are talking about a mass that declares on the scale a whopping 2,650 kilos, a figure that has prevailed against all the weapons and power of the Rivian to get off the asphalt. Thus, Dan Czermak found himself in the position of resorting first to a RAM 4500 to get the car out of there, but the result was none other than the R1S moon completely destroyed.
