Neither battery, nor autonomy, the best of the Volkswagen ID.7 is in its revolutionary, although imperfect air conditioning

Volkswagen’s next big launch in the electric car market will be the Volkswagen ID.7, however today we are not going to talk about the battery, autonomy or recharging of this model, today we are going to discover why the air conditioner of the ID.7 will be one of the best ever installed in a car. At Volkswagen they want to offer something different in this area, creating for it a truly intelligent air conditioning system that will be able to detect our heat or cold before we ourselves.

Presented in prototype format at the recent CES held in Las Vegas, the ID.7 is Volkswagen’s new commitment to electric mobility. It is a sedan with a very aerodynamic and even sporty design that will hit the streets at the end of this year 2023launching a new evolution of the MEB platform, a battery capable of offering up to 700 km autonomy and a new infotainment system that is accompanied by a new intelligent climate control system.

This new two-zone air conditioning for the front seats, will be able to detect the position and incidence of the sun to, without the need for any order from the occupants, adapt the flow and temperature of the air that both pilot and co-pilot receive. Thanks to a sensor located on the windshield, the ID.7 is able to know that the sun is shining more on one side of the car than the other., adapting on its own the air conditioning and the ventilation/heating functions of the seats to achieve the greatest climatic comfort. In fact, the air conditioner will be able to act before we even start the carstarting up early enough to prevent the car from being too hot or cold when we get into it.

Also This system will also have robotic air outlets, being able to modify the air flow in real time to achieve the greatest temperature homogeneity inside the passenger compartment. In turn, this system will also be compatible with a new evolution of voice interaction, being able to recognize specific commands. In this way, if the driver says that his hands are cold, the system will automatically activate the steering wheel heater, raise the air temperature and direct the ventilation outlets towards the steering wheel.

The user interface for this air conditioner will also be new, being fully integrated into the new infotainment system that comes to life through a 15″ touch screen. Although Volkswagen will not use physical controls to control the air conditioning, it will improves the touch experience by adding backlighting to the temperature control bars located under the screen. But not everything was going to be perfect, since the digitalization of the air conditioner has as a consequence the disappearance of the manual controls in the aeration outlets, which requires resorting to the touch screen to be able to modify the direction or flow of each of the air outlets.
