The automobile industry leaves us with situations that are less curious. As is the case with the hybrid at hand, in a configuration that is unusual in the market, that of combining a complete hybrid mechanics with a family body derived from a compact.
Suzuki has been one of the pioneering brands in the hybridization and – above all – the microhybridization of its engines, to improve the consumption of its engines and obtain the much-prized ECO label. But curiously, he relied on Toyota’s product to complete his range of products with a hybrid, the Suzuki Swace, and a plug-in hybrid, the Suzuki Across, which are none other than the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports and the Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid with the Suzuki emblem. Toyota, in fact, makes these two Suzuki models.
Hence, it is surprising to some extent, but above all an important detail for any buyer who is looking for a hybrid car, that the Suzuki can be bought for €1,700 less than its Toyot twina.
Hybrid and family for €25,982
as we told you The Suzuki Swace is a complete hybrid family car, with a 122 hp engine and a large trunk, as befits its body, with a capacity of 596 liters. The Suzuki Swace has an offer price of €25,982 (GLE version) currently and as standard already includes 16″ alloy wheels, digital instrumentation with 7″ screen, entertainment system with 8″ touch screen and rear view camera, and dual-zone climate control.
If we want it more complete, for €27,787 we can access a GLX version that includes bi-LED headlights, improvements in ambient lighting on board, leather details on the dashboard and center console, wireless charger for smartphones, blind spot detection and rear traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors.
Suzuki’s is cheaper, but less equipped and its hybrid mechanics is less powerful and has not yet introduced the improvements that Toyota has just released in the Corolla
Differences with the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports
The Toyota Corolla Touring Sports part of the €27,700 – despite the fact that it is essentially the same car – and €27,500 if we finance at a dealer. But there are two big differences between the Toyota and its Suzuki twin. The first, that The Toyota Corolla Touring Sports has just been updated and has introduced important improvements, equipment and enginesamong them that its hybrid engine has clearly improved its performance and now delivers 140 CV of power (and 196 CV if we configure the version with a 2.0 engine).
The second big difference in its standard equipment the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports is more complete and in the Style line from which it starts, it already includes 17″ wheels, partial leather upholstery, heated seats and bi-LED headlights.
So the buying decision between the Suzuki Swace and the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports seems to be simplified. Suzuki’s is the best option if we are looking for a complete hybrid family car, of course with an ECO label, at the lowest possible price. But if what we want is a more equipped car, we value the improvements that Toyota has introduced in its hybrid engines, improving their performance, or we want the most powerful 196 hp engine (which is not available in the Suzuki), the best option is the Toyota. Corolla Touring Sports.
