Reliability has always been an important consideration when buying a new car. Reliable cars hold their value well and are cheaper to own. Naturally, the more miles the car lasts, the longer you can avoid buying another vehicle, which is another part of its reliability. With this in mind, we’ve listed the five models most likely to last 200,000 miles or more according to iSeeCars, and unsurprisingly, the Toyota brand is at the top of the pack.
1.Toyota Land Cruiser
The toyota land cruiser tops iSeeCars list of models most likely to last 200,000+ miles. According to Engine Patrol, can last for 250,000-300,000 if kept up with regular maintenance and service. It could even last longer depending on daily use.
Since the average annual mileage for cars in the US is 12,724 miles, according to Kelley Blue Book, this translates to about 19 years on the low end and just under 24 years on the high end. The Land Cruiser is a pickup-based SUV designed for harsh off-road driving conditions..
Unfortunately, Toyota discontinued the Land Cruiser in the US in 2021, so the only way to own one is to get a used model. That being said, it is still a popular model in the rest of the world.
2.Toyota Sequoia
Coming in second is another body-on-frame Toyota SUV: the toyota sequoia. Is an excellent family car with seats for up to eight passengers and with powerful engines includedit is also capable of towing for a camping trip.
Like the Land Cruiser, It’s built to last nearly 300,000 miles, which means that even if you drive 15,000 miles a year, it should serve you for at least 17 years. Plus, it’s more than twice as likely to last 200,000 miles than the next model on the list.
The Sequoia is still in production in the US, though now instead of gasoline engines you get hybrid powertrains.
3.Chevrolet Suburban
After the Sequoia is the Chevy Suburban of General Motor, one of the oldest nameplates of the brand. According to Car and Driver, it was first introduced in 1935 as a wagon based on trucks.
It is currently in its 12th generation and is based on the GM T1 platform, which is General Motors’ architecture for body-on-frame SUVs and trucks. The platform was introduced in 2018 and can be seen in other GM vehicles like the GMC Sierra, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, and even the next model on the list, the GMC Yukon XL.
4. GMC Yukon XL
Like the Chevy Suburban, the Yukon XL it’s a full-size SUV in the General Motor lineup. The current models have configurations of seven or eight seats, although in some previous models they could fit up to nine. It also shares components with the Chevy Suburban, including the GM T1 platform.
The models Yukon XL with up to 276,000 miles on the odometer are still available in working order. As such, if you take care of yours, it should last 15+ years.
5.Toyota 4Runner
Toyota manages to sneak the 4runner, another SUV, among the five vehicles most likely to last more than 200,000 miles. While you can’t get a new Land Cruiser in the US, the Toyota 4Runner is the next best, as it’s built on the same platform.
According to HotCars, It might even be a good idea to buy a used one, given its off-road capabilities and reputation for durability. The fact that it constitutes 3.9% of the vehicles that have lasted more than 200,000 kilometers is also a good sign.
