A new B card is going to arrive, and the director of the DGT has already confirmed when it will be a reality

As is logical, when it comes to being able to use motor vehicles on public roads, it is necessary to have an administrative authorization, a driving license, which we all know as a “driving license”. The most common card is the B, a permit that allows us to use the cars that we see on the streets on a regular basis on public roads. They had been speculating for some time about the creation of a new B card, and the director of the DGT himself has confirmed it, also setting a date for its arrival.

The B driving license is one that gives access to the use on public roads of cars whose maximum authorized mass does not exceed 3,500 kg. that are designed and built for the transport of no more than eight passengers in addition to the driver. In addition, if the license is at least three years old, the holders of the B permit are also authorized to use the motorcycles of the permit A1.

For some time now we have been talking about the possibility of a new driver’s license arriving, a new class of permit B with which the youngest could have access to driving much more capable vehicles than the current offer that is available to them, as we remember that currently they can only access, at most, L6 type quadricycles, with a maximum power of 7 kW and a maximum speed of 45 km/h. This new permit, named B1, is closer than ever and Pere Navarro himself has confirmed it.

The new B1 permit is very close, according to Pere Navarro

We have talked at length about the new B1 driving license, a driving license that will be available to users who have reached the age of 16 and wish to drive more powerful and capable vehicles than current quadricycles and mopeds, allowing them to use heavy trikes and quadrikes weighing up to 400 kg, with a maximum power of 15 kW and a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Currently there is little supply of this type of vehicle, highlighting above all the everlasting Renault Twizy in its most powerful version which, surprisingly, is still for sale.

The maximum representative of the Directorate General of Traffic has confirmed, in an interview with the Herald, that Europe is currently working actively on a new type B driving license directive, which is expected to be completed during the first half of the year. When this happens, according to Pere, The DGT “will take the opportunity to incorporate the B1 into the driver’s regulation”, something that will be applied foreseeably at the beginning of 2024.

This means that the B1 driving license is closer than it seems, since there are only a few months left for its application to become a reality and millions of users between the ages of 16 and 18 can get behind the wheel for the first time, and in a completely legal way, of vehicles capable of driving on the dual carriageway and above all on conventional roads with full solvency.
