Bertone, the legendary Italian coachbuilders and designers who disappeared eight years ago, leaving an irreplaceable gap in the motor world, announced their return a month ago. Bertone returned and promised to do so with a very special model. The Bertone GB110 (GB for the initials of its founder Giovanni Bertone and 110 for the anniversary of the brand) It is a 1,110 CV hypercar with which the bodybuilder becomes a builder.
The Bertone GB110 marks the start of a new era for the brand: it will be the first model in a forthcoming series of limited edition vehicles. Bertone will only build 33 units, but it has not ruled on its price and has not revealed the origin of the donor chassis. He has only mentioned that “it is based on the components of a German manufacturer”.
A tribute to Bertone’s past
yes we know that the wheelbase of the Bertone GB110 is 2,630 meters (slightly shorter than a Lamborghini Huracán) and the chassis is equipped with double wishbone suspensions on both axles, four-way adjustable shock absorbers or carbon-ceramic brakes, among others. The front wheels are 21 inches, while the rear ones are 22 inches and are shod with 335/25 tires.
To conceive this mid-engined two-seater, the designers, led by Giovanni Sapio, drew inspiration from the study’s history, blending the silhouette of the Lancia Stratos Zero with futuristic complexity of the Alfa Romeo BAT and the Alfa Romeo Carabo, which served as the inspiration for the Lamborghini Countach. The result is an alternation between sharp edges and more rounded, sinuous lines.
The design of the Bertone GB110
The front of the Bertone GB110 is marked by an angular hood, which has a splitter that divides it into two and gives way to square LED headlights. Below that is a bumper with a carbon fiber splitter and multiple air inlets. In profile, the focus is on the butterfly doors; the wheels are multi-spoke, in silver and black, and behind them are red brake calipers.
The Bertone GB110’s B-pillar extends to meet the rear wheel arch in a ‘C’ shape reminiscent of the Bugatti Chiron’s styling. At the rear, under the horizontal headlights, we find a huge diffuser that integrates the pair of vertical exhaust outlets that are divided, in turn, into two.
after gull wing doors of the Bertone GB110 (reminiscent of those of the Lamborghini Marzal) we find a minimalist interior, which does not renounce digital instrumentation and other modern elements.
synthetic fuel
Bertone has not detailed the size of the Bertone GB110 combustion engine or the number of cylinders, but explains that it develops 1,110 hp and has a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm; It will have a seven-speed transmission and all-wheel drive. The most significant is that this hypercar designed to run on a synthetic fuel made from plastic waste developed by Select Fuel, company with which they have collaborated to conceive an ecological model.
With these features, the Bertone GB110 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.79 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 6.79 seconds and can reach 300 km/h in 14 seconds from a standstill: it’s only slightly slower than a Bugatti Chiron. Its top speed is around 380 km/h.
