Bugatti Chiron Profilée, the unknown Bugatti Chiron

Posted on

The list of versions and special editions of the Bugatti Chiron is considerable, considering how special this hypercar is. Until now, we knew that the Centodieci, Mistral, Pur Sport and Super Sport 300+ existed. A quartet that, now, has become a quintet after Bugatti has revealed a One-Off that did not reach the production lines to preserve the exclusivity of the Bugatti Chiron itself. This is the Bugatti Chiron Profilée.

In 2020, Bugatti launched the Bugatti Pur Sport: the most dynamic version of the Bugatti Chiron yet… which quickly sold out. The Bugatti Chiron Profilee arose because customers asked the French brand a car that had the poise and agility of the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport on the track, but was more focused on driving off the track. And they added a more elegant body to the request.

From 30 units… to 1

At this level, the customer is always right and at Molsheim they were willing to accommodate that request. Conception and development of the Bugatti Chiron Profilée began in autumn 2020 and When it was finished, they realized one thing: the production capacity of the Bugatti Chiron was exhausted. The French brand promised not to manufacture more than 500 units and they had reached that figure with the 60 units of the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport, which had sold out quickly.

The edition of the Bugatti Chiron Profilée was going to be made up of 30 copies, which, finally, were reduced to one for the very exclusivity of the Bugatti Chiron. Yes, the model you see in the images is the only Chiron Profilée that exists.

The importance of the rear wing

The Bugatti Chiron Profilée’s calling card is its beautiful rear wing. An element that served to baptize him: reminiscent of early Bugatti Type 46 and 50, that they had a similar curve in the rear and for what Jean Bugatti called them Profilée. This body-integrated perforated ducktail spoiler increases downforce on the rear axle up to a top speed of 380 km/h. It also dissipates hot air from the engine compartment through two internal tunnels.

Other characteristic elements of the Bugatti Chiron Profilée is its horseshoe-shaped grill which, on this occasion, is larger and wider air inlets at the front: the mission of both elements is to ensure greater airflow at the front. Added to this is a revised splitter in combination with a custom-molded underbody.

We will not find another Bugatti Chiron with the elegant paintwork of the Profilée because it was developed exclusively for this vehicle: it is Argent Atlantique. The lower part of the body is finished in visible carbon fiber dyed in Bugatti Blu Royal, the same tone that they have chosen for the wheels, which also have an exclusive design for this unit.

The Bugatti Chiron Profilee is the first Chiron with an interior lined in woven leather (visible at the doors and in the central tunnel) and for this, in Molsheim they used 2,500 meter strips of the aforementioned material. The seats are made of two-tone dyed padded leather: Rafale Gray and Deep Blue. And on the center console there is an insert, made of matt black anodized aluminum, which reminds us of the name of this One-Off.

Chassis specific settings

The Bugatti Chiron Profilée’s engine is the same as the Bugatti Chiron’s: an 8.0 W16 with four turbochargers, which develops 1,500 hp at 6,700 rpm and has a maximum torque of 1,600 Nm between 2,000 rpm and 6,000 rpm. Power is passed to all four wheels via a seven-ratio dual-clutch DSG gearbox: being based on the Pur Sport, gear ratios have been shortened by 15% compared to the Chiron Sport. The maximum speed is limited to 380 km/h and it is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 5.5 seconds.

Chassis tuning includes changes in the camber angles of the wheels on both axes: The rear, for example, has 50% more negative camber to ensure better cornering grip without sacrificing ride comfort. The suspension springs, meanwhile, are stiffer: 65% more at the front and 33% more at the rear compared to a standard Bugatti Chiron.

will be auctioned

Bugatti will auction the Bugatti Chiron Profilee through RM Sotheby’s on February 1, 2023 and The proceeds will go to charitable purposes. Taking into account that the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport had a price of three million euros and sixty units were manufactured, we assume that the Bugatti Chiron Profilée can exceed that figure… by far.
