Can a Subaru WRX with $5,000 worth of modifications beat a Lamborghini Murciélago? (+video)

Despite the fact that I consider myself a firm defender of stock cars, I do not deny that there are very elaborate modifications capable of taking cars to unsuspected limits. This could be the case of the Subaru Impreza WRX SW that concerns us today and that has a total of 5,000 dollars in improvements, or what is the same, the potential for, Beat a Lamborghini Murciélago? Let’s find out.

This experiment has been carried out by the guys from Driven Media, who bought the Japanese relative for just under $4,000 and completely stock. With this base and with a maximum budget of 11,000 dollars, the objective was to create a WRX capable of selling to a tough rival.

This is the WRX SW with $ 5,000 in improvements that wants to beat a Lamborghini

The first step was to improve the clutch, suspension and brakes, to which they added an anti-roll bar, semi-slick tires and a weight reduction of 136 kilos. Of course, to this we must add an increase in power, although starting from an engine that had lost some other CV along the way.

And it is that the Subaru Impreza WRX SW originally developed 224 CV and 330 Nm of torque from a four-cylinder boxer 2.0-liter turbo. However, when our protagonists took it to the dyno they discovered that it produced 190 CV, although after the pertinent improvements They managed to bring the figure up to 304 CV but enough to unseat the Italian supercar?

We are talking about a Lamborghini Murciélago with a 6.5-liter V12 capable of offering 640 hp and 660 Nm of torque, figures that catapult it to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and allow a top speed of 340 km/h. Benefits, without a doubt, far from the WRX SW, but perhaps not so much given the improvements it has undergone.

And the truth is that not only are the Italian’s performance not so far from the Impreza, but he manages to beat it on the same track, in the same weather conditions and with the same driver. So the stopwatch stopped in 1:24.13 minutes for the Murciélago and in 1:21.36 minutes for the WRX SW.
