If, like us, you are a child-minded adult – which is not to say immature – you will surely enjoy building LEGO sets immensely. At Diariomotor, David Clavero and I are big fans, especially of the Speed Champions and Technic universe. These days we are talking about the arrival at Speed Champions of the set of the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 from 2 Fast 2 Furious, and on this occasion, we are talking about the arrival of a new LEGO Technic set. A 49.99 euro model of the magnificent Bugatti Bolide.
The Bugatti Bolide is a racing version of the Bugatti Chiron. Or rather, a racing-client based on the mechanics and internal architecture of the Chiron. Its 8.0 W16 engine with four turbos develops a whopping 1,600 CV – the prototypes promised 1,850 CV – and with a weight of less than 1,300 kilos, they promised a top speed around 500 km/h. Although its final specifications and its performance have yet to be presented, Bugatti aims high and promises absolute lap records on various legendary circuits.
The Bolide is postulated as one of the great swan songs for internal combustion.
From this careers-client for billionaires only 40 units will be produced, at a price of 4 million euros per piece. Fortunately, you will only need 49.99 euros to take the copy of LEGO Technic home with you. It is a similar set to the Corvette ZR-1 and the Shelby Mustang GT500. It has 905 pieces and measures approximately 31 cm long, 13 cm wide and 8 cm high. It is an ideal set for children aged 9 and over, but also for adults who want to complement their collection. As a Technic set, it has some interesting features.
The most interesting, in my opinion, is that its 16-cylinder twin-vee engine has moving pistons and a differential. In addition, the steering is functional, although we lack mobile suspension. Finally, the doors and the engine cover are openable. It’s not a lot of features, but it’s a big step up from the unexciting Mustang GT500 from earlier in the year. From this set I also want to highlight the attention to detail of certain complex design elements, such as its rear optics or the diffuser.
With 905 pieces, you’ll have entertainment for a few cold, dark winter nights.
Through a combination of conventional LEGO pieces and elements as curious as red lightsabers, the rear of the hypercar has been convincingly recreated. The Bolide’s black and yellow colors have also been faithfully recreated, as well as featuring versions of parts never seen before in the Technic ecosystem.
