Even if its price goes up, the compact car that offers the most, the cheapest, is not diesel or gasoline

We started the year with negative news. MG Motor, one of the great winners in the Spanish market last year, which has surprised people above all by launching very cheap products and very well equipped as standard, raised the price of some of its models.

A climb that, in any case, is not a drama. And it is that they continue to enjoy a privileged position in the market, with prices that are well below those of its rivalsincluding Dacia.

Since its price was announced, we considered the MG 4 Electric to be a real bargain. A well-equipped electric car at the price of an equivalent compactof its size, with less equipped gasoline or diesel engine. Is it still a bargain?

The MG compact raises its price

Until December, we could buy an MG 4 Electric for €19,280. Currently the price of the most affordable MG 4 is €20,480. This price includes the discount for financing the purchase at the dealership and the aid from the MOVES Plan. MG is one of the brands that offers an advance of the MOVES Plan, which we remember is not immediate, and requires its concession to receive aid of up to €7,000. The advance of the aid – by means of an additional credit without interest, or commissions, for one year – allows the buyer to purchase the vehicle or finance the purchase of the vehicle discounting the aid, which, ultimately, is an important facility when buying the vehicle now. vehicle.

The MG 4 Electric is now €800 more expensive. Even so, continues to enjoy an unbeatable price for an electric compact which, as standard, already includes full LED headlights, dual digital display for instrumentation and entertainment system (7″ and 10.25″) with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic start and keyless entry and 16″ wheels.

But how are the rest of the diesel and gasoline alternatives in its category?

The cheapest compact on the market

  • For €17,170 the Hyundai i30 It continues to be one of the most economical and highly recommended compacts, with a 110 hp gasoline engine. Even so, to enjoy a version equipped with alloy wheels, parking sensor and Android Auto and CarPlay we will have to go to versions higher than €20,000 and, therefore, at the price of the MG 4.
  • For €17,310 the Kia Ceed It is the “cousin” of the i30 and also a very complete compact, which starts from a 100 CV gasoline engine. Again, to have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, parking sensors, or digital instrumentation, we will have to go to more equipped and expensive versions.
  • The Skoda Scala remains at €18,200 with a 110 hp gasoline engine and equipped as standard with 16″ alloy wheels, rear parking sensor, 6.5″ touch screen, but not Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
  • The Fiat Tipo has increased its price to €19,019, with a 100 hp gasoline engine and a touchscreen entertainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. It does not have a parking sensor as standard, nor do they have alloy wheels (they are made of steel, with trims, in 16″).
