Ford has defined it as a midsize crossover, which will be located above the electric Ford Puma and below the Ford Mustang Mach-E. We are talking, therefore, about an electric SUV with American aesthetics and German technology for the European market. There are not many details about him, but yes a couple of images in teaser format that give us the first clues.
Since their arrival was confirmed in 2021, Ford’s new electric SUV has been kept strictly secret. So far: Two of the brand’s bosses have revealed the first details about its design on social media. A movement that invites to think that it would only be a few weeks until it is revealed.
a couple of pictures
Martin Sander, general manager of the Ford Model E team in Europe, posted a photo of himself alongside the new SUV on Twitter. An image in which shows a small part of the front and which is accompanied by the following text: “I can’t wait for 2023. That will be when we unveil our first electric passenger vehicle from Cologne.”
Peter Zillig, Ford’s head of marketing in Europe, chose LinkedIn to preview the electric SUV. In the picture, completely dark, only the light signature is guessed of the new electric: it is made up of elongated LED headlights that could become a common feature of the models that will be part of the new era of the blue oval brand.
first details
With these two tracks it is possible to appreciate that, in size and silhouette, Ford’s new SUV will compete directly with the Toyota bZ4X, Nissan Ariya and Volvo XC40 Recharge. Based on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group, it is expected that it shares some characteristics with the Volkswagen ID.4. His style, however, will be more robust and rectilinear following the style of the Ford Explorer.
In the small part of the SUV that is visible, large headlights, a contrasting bumper and aerodynamically designed wheels are recognizable. Everything else remains secret, although the first bets speak of an aesthetic influence from the Ford F-150 and the Ford Bronco… which will arrive in Europe in 2023. The rest of the hypotheses focus on the mechanical part and speak of engines with a power that would oscillate between 150 and 300 CV, batteries with a range of 340-480 kilometers and all-wheel drive systems.
A new member for ‘Active Adventure’
Ford’s new electric SUV will be part of the ‘Active Adventure’ model line, along with other models such as the Ford Kuga. There are three other ‘families’ in this new era: ‘Wild Performance’ which is the line of the Ford Mustang, ‘Urban Escape’ for models like the Ford Puma and ‘Ultimate Outdoor’ which includes SUVs like the Ford Ranger Raptor and the Ford Bronco.
The new electric cars that Ford will send to Europe will leave the factory in Cologne, where they currently shape the Ford Fiesta, whose production will end in July 2023.
