Sports compacts have long since left behind their greatest attraction: the price-performance ratio. They have become a whim suitable for a few pockets, and one of the last to demonstrate it has been the new Honda Civic Type R, which in the Spanish market is priced at 54,850 euros. But the Japanese compact has gone a long way in its previous generation after it Max Verstappen’s unit has been auctioned for 75,000 euros.
But being fair to the Type R that concerns us today, we must say that it was not too much to the credit of the Dutchman. And it’s really Verstappen only covered 80 kilometers with the Japanese compact, and it was during a filming of a promotional ad that he had to do by contract. And it is that, as a general rule, a Type R of said consignment with a similar mileage is for sale in Spain for approximately 40,000 euros. That is to say, that the firm of Max Verstappen and the fact that it has been under his name have managed to almost double the price of the Honda Civic Type R, because in the rest of the aspects we find ourselves with a “normal and ordinary” unit. .
And I put it in quotes because we are talking about the car that held the fastest front-wheel drive title on the Nürburgring. This is possible not only through a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that develops 320 hp and 420 Nm of torquebut also thanks to a worked aerodynamics that allow the Type R to be one of the most effective sports compacts on the asphalt.
This faculty remains even more evident in the new generation of Japanese, although on paper. Be that as it may, the Type R that was once under Verstappen’s tutelage does not have any modificationso, beyond its signature, we are talking about a unit that remains strictly serial and that remains the same precise sports compact that we all know.
Y same scenario could be repeated with the Honda NSX Type S with which the Dutchman was awarded not long ago. We are talking about a supercar to which we must not only add the value provided by the fact that it ended up in Max Verstappen’s garage, but also that it is a limited edition to end production of the Japanese supercar and that, due to its lack of successful, there are very few second-batch NSXs in total.
