Electric cars require having a garage, with an electrical connection to recharge it; they allow you to travel long distances, as long as you plan the route well to make stops at fast chargers to recharge enough energy to reach your destination; and they are also expensive, much more than their diesel and gasoline alternatives.
Regarding the first two aspects, there are still no magical solutions. We do not recommend buying an electric car if you do not have a garage, nor do we recommend taking on a long trip without planning stops to recharge beforehand. But there are more and more options on the market and, although few, there are already cars that have managed to break a great barrier, that of put on the market an electric car that is cheaper than all – or almost all – of its diesel and gasoline alternatives.

The MG 4 Electric stands as the compact that offers more, for a tighter price, even compared to its rivals with diesel and gasoline engines
Neither diesel nor gasoline, the economical compact is electric
Today the cheapest MG 4 costs €19,280, including all promotions, the usual discount on all brands to be financed and aid from the MOVES Plan, with delivery of an old car. The granting of aid from the MOVES Plan is not immediate, but MG Motor is one of the brands that offers an advance of the MOVES aid, with a kind of credit, for a year (to allow time for the customer to be granted ) without interest.
As we will see later, it is not the cheapest compact, but if we take into account its equipment and the fact that it has an electrical system, it is undoubtedly the one that offers the most. Its standard endowment includes equipment that is not usually available as standard in its rivalsneither in those that are cheaper, nor in many of those that are more expensive:
- Full LED headlights
- 16″ alloy wheels
- Dual digital screen (10.25″ instrumentation and 7″ entertainment system
- Auto start and keyless entry
- rear parking sensor
- air conditioning
- Telematic control from mobile application
The cheapest compact on the market
The 5 cheapest compact at the moment are between €17,000 and €19,280 for the MG 4 Electric.
- For €17,024 we can access a KIA Ceed, with gasoline engine of 100 CV. A very decent and quality compact that, in any case, does not have a rear parking sensor, digital instrumentation, or an entertainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for that price.
- For €17,170 we can access the Hyundai i30with a 110 CV gasoline engine, another great product that in its most basic version, for example, lacks alloy wheels (it equips steel wheels with 15″ trims) and also an entertainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and the rear parking sensor, which are already offered in more expensive versions and that exceed €20,000
- For €18,200 the Skoda Scala is available, a compact that we recommend above all for those who need space. Its most basic version uses a 110 hp gasoline engine and does have standard equipment closer to that of the MG, such as 16″ alloy wheels, rear parking sensor and 6.5″ touch screen, but not Apple Carplay and Android Auto, nor digital instrumentation.
- For €18,410 we can access the FIAT Tipo, with gasoline engine of 100 CV. It does include an entertainment system with a touch screen and compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard, but not the rear parking sensor, nor alloy wheels (they are standard steel, with trims, in 16 “).
