Not even ‘Fast & Furious’ can resist electric cars

‘Full throttle’ (also known as ‘The Fast and the Furious’) was the first film of the most famous franchise in the motor world, although over time the cars have lost that level of prominence that they did have at the beginning . Its premiere took place in 2001 and if someone had told us 21 years ago that, in the latest films, Toretto would do his thing on board an electric car… we would have laughed. Indeed, that day has come: Not even ‘Fast & Furious’ has been able to resist it.

The last installment will be the end of the story and will be divided into two films: the tenth and the eleventh. The first of them will be incorporated into the franchise under the title ‘Fast-X’, it began shooting at the beginning of 2022 and will hit the big screen next spring: between April and May we should see Dominic Toretto, Letty and company in theaters again.

Until then, social networks have become an improvised source of information that recounts the steps of the penultimate film in the saga. Some scenes were obviously shot in Toretto’s neighborhood: Angelino Heights in Los Angeles. And there one of the great novelties of ‘Fast and Furious’ was revealed: electric cars will be part of the franchise.

The Dodge Charger R/T (which has also been seen in the filming being) has had to make room for one of its electrified successors. Who was going to tell us a couple of decades ago: maybe let’s see Toretto behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept, which replaces the supercharged V8 with an electric motor on which there is no official data. They say that it will be able to exceed the performance of the V8 Hellcat so it should be above its 717 CV. It will have, according to Dodge, a multi-speed transmission… and a fake exhaust system that will try to imitate the sound of the V8.

Also a Delorean Alpha5

Considering that the Dodge Charger has been present in Fast & Furious since the first film, it makes sense that they include this electric prototype in the tenth installment. Less closely associated with the franchise (though no less associated with Hollywood) is the brand behind the second electric model identified on set: a Delorean Alpha5, yes the electric heir to the DMC DeLorean.

Under the design of Italdesign, the studio led by Giorgietto Giugiaro, the author of the first model, there will be a 100 kWh battery that should guarantee an electrical autonomy of 483 kilometers. There is also no information about its mechanical schematic, but we do know that It will reach a top speed of 241 km/h and will be able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in about 3.4 seconds. Perfect features for the Fast & Furious saga with which, yes, Toretto and company will make less noise than ever.
