Porsche 911 Carrera T: lightened purist cocktail with the most “basic” engine

Posted on

There is a new member in the Porsche 911 family. As happened in the previous generation, after a few years in production, the Porsche 911 CarreraT. We could define it as a more “humble” 911 GT3, but it is more accurate to speak of the Carrera T as a lighter, sportier basic Carrera that involves the driver even more. This is possible thanks to a series of components present only in other more powerful 911s. The goal is to create a very purist Porsche 911 with access mechanics to the range.

The T in the name stands for Touring, and it was first used as a trade name in the 1960s. The philosophy of the Porsche 911 T was the same as that of the new 911 Carrera T, where the only thing that changes is the commercial name – and almost 60 years of technical evolution. The Porsche 911 Carrera T engine is the most basic engine in the 911 range: a 3.0 biturbo boxer, capable of developing 385 hp and 450 Nm of torque. An engine with very remarkable performance: it allows a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 296 km/h.

As standard, it equips the 20 and 21-inch wheels of the Carrera S, finished in Titanium Gray.

The changes compared to other 911 Carreras start with the gearbox: It can be ordered with a seven-speed manual gearbox., only available on the 911 Carrera S and GTS at the moment. In addition, it also inherits equipment from the Carrera S range such as a differential electronically controlled self-locking (Porsche Torque Vectoring) and the PASM sports suspension, which reduces the ground clearance by 10 mm. As standard, the 911 Carrera T equipped with the Sport Chrono Pack and optionally can even be ordered with a steering rear axle.

This equipment increases the sportiness of the 911 substantially and until now was not available on the 911 Carrera, not even as an option. The sports exhaust is standard and Porsche has put a further slimming diet on the car, doing away with the rear seats and fitting both thinner glass and a lighter battery. With manual transmission, this car weighs only 1,470 kilos, and is 35 kilos lighter than a 911 Carrera with PDK transmission. Inside there are also changes that differentiate it from other 911 Carrera without “last name”.

The Carrera T is available in four solid colours, four metallic and four other special colours.

The steering wheel is the GT steering wheel with the smallest diameter and the seats are sporty as standard, specifically the Sports Seats Plus with four electrical adjustments. Optionally we can choose adaptive seats with 18 electrical adjustments, and my favorites, the Ultralight bucket seats upholstered in Race Tex fabric, identical to those that we could find in a 911 GT3. In the passenger compartment we find moldings in dark tones, both matte and satin, as well as specific logos and the possibility of contrasting the seat belts in bright colors.

The Porsche 992 Carrera T arrives at dealerships in February 2023 and in Spain it will be available at a price that starts at 143,314 euros.
