It was in the year 2020 when, between pandemics and other problems, Porsche showed its clear care for the most veteran of the brand by the hand of what they baptized as PCCM. These acronyms refer to Porsche Classic Communication Management, a name that hides an infotainment system with a classic appearance but internally modern, offering connection with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Well, now those from Stuttgart have gone further by adapting the system to their Porsche Boxster and Cayman 987, Porsche 911 997 and Porsche Cayenne E1, although in exchange for a significant 1,635 euros.
And although it is true that many of the aftermarket infotainment systems to modernize an old car involve a high outlay, here we find two pluses to take into account. The first of these is that we are talking about a screen that is original Porsche, also adding value and essence to the car, and the second is that does not break the original design or harmony of the car.

This is achieved thanks to a design very similar to that of the original radio, in addition to the fact that we are talking about vehicles from the beginning of the century, which is why they already had a series of more advanced infotainment systems. Also, the screen declares a very respectable 7 inches that do not break the essence of any of the offspring of the German house.
A point in favor is that this does not imply modifications to the car audio equipment or the antenna. In turn, the PCCM not only offers compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but also uses state-of-the-art navigation with points of interest, 2D or 3D mapping, map updates, the most advanced on-board computer and the ability to memory depending on the equipment of the car. In other words, if our Porsche has a specific configuration, this memory could be used for lights, windshield wipers, climate control or locking of the vehicle itself.
The connection of the mobile with the system itself is made through conventional USB, and the slot is in a corner that, in the same way, does not break with the aesthetics of a car from the early 2000s. In this way, the Porsche range already has, in full, state-of-the-art infotainment systems, although yes, in exchange for a disbursement that we do not know if every owner will be willing to assume.
And it is that the already mentioned 1,635 euros is what the German firm is asking for the PCCM system with the included SD card. What we do not know is if this figure includes the installation of the screen or if it is a payment that one must assume when older, to which we must add that the maps go separately, so the more than 1,600 euros will increase in if you opt for this extra.
Although if we are a bit of a handyman and we take into account that with the mobile itself we can already enjoy map applications, it may be more sensible to mount it on our own and reject the map package. Thus it would be possible to keep the final bill at those 1,635 euros.
