The bargains do not abound. Y find an SUV with a large trunk for less than €13,000 Today it would be an almost impossible task, if it were not for the product at hand. In the last year, car prices have increased considerably and in 2023 it is not expected that the market will return to the previous situation and, in fact, everything indicates that prices will continue to rise.
But, for now, it does not seem that there are going to be increases in what today is the SUV that offers the most, with a tighter budget. A compact size SUV that is cheaper than the Dacia Sandero. A car with the dimensions of a SEAT Ateca – which is €11,500 more expensive – and a 448-litre boot, similar to that of a Volkswagen T-ROC.
The flagship product this year has been the MG ZS. And everything indicates that in 2023 it will continue to be, hence the MG Motor SUV is our pick for anyone thinking of buying a budget SUV, with a big boot, in 2023.
An economic SUV, with a large trunk, for €13,000
The MG ZS is available for €12,950, including all promotions and financing the purchase. Your Zero Emissions alternative, the MG ZS EV, is available for €22,280including discounts, aid from the MOVES Plan and financing the purchase.
Our arguments for buying this SUV are the following:
- To this day there is no SUV of its size that offers so much with a budget of €12,950
- Its extensive standard equipment, unusual for such cheap cars, which already includes a 10.1″ touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and rear parking sensors, Full Led headlights and 17″ alloy wheels
- An engine that, a priori, and due to its technology, seems robust and reliable, and that without being especially performance-oriented (the most affordable version is equipped with a 106 CV gasoline engine and a 5-speed manual transmission) has surprised us with its smoothness
- Current offer includes 1 year of free insurance
The MG ZS is so complete out of the box that we honestly think the entry version is complete enough for most drivers. Even so, we would propose the following configuration options:
- The only paint finish that does not incur an additional cost is white. We recommend the metallic finishes (in blue, orange and red), which are especially striking (+€650)
- If we want the most complete equipment possible in this car, which includes a 360º parking camera and digital instrumentation, we recommend the Luxury version (+€2,000)
- If we want a more performance engine, for example for more intense use on the road, or we need an automatic transmission, we recommend choosing the 111 CV turbo engine (+€4,000 Manual Luxury and +€3,750 Automatic Comfort)
What other cheap SUVs can we buy?
- If what we are looking for is an SUV or an economical crossover, the Dacia Sandero from €14,570 it’s one of the better options, but it’s significantly smaller, less roomy, and less standard-equipped than the ZS.
- If we need a good trunk, the Dacia Duster for €16,594 It’s also a great option, but it’s quite a bit more expensive than the MG ZS. The great advantage of the Dacia Duster and the reason why we would choose it and it could be worth the extra price is that the most affordable and on sale version is equipped with a 100 CV bifuel turbo engine, which can run interchangeably with gasoline and LPG and that confers the ECO label.
- If we are looking for an economical SUV with a good trunk, the SsangYong Tivoli from €16,900 It is also an interesting option and if we want a lot of trunk, the SsangYong Tivoli Grand from €19,200 It has a trunk of 574 liters, much higher than that of the MG
