For some time now we have been talking about a trend that is extremely interesting for those who are looking for a very spacious car, with the maximum space that is technically possible in a vehicle of its size. The minivans that once dominated the streets and held the top positions of best sellers, such as the old Renault Scénic, have been replaced by a new generation of minivans designed on the basis of a van, a commercial vehicle.
We shouldn’t let its appearance as a freight vehicle fool us. Brands like Renault have taken advantage of the versatility of this type of vehicle which, like the Renault Kangoo, not only offers a range that is impossible to achieve for any other vehicle, but also the equipment, perceived quality, and technology that we will find in any another tourer and a more refined driving style.
But is a Renault Kangoo from €25,493 a bargain and an alternative to the SUV?
Anti-SUV and large trunk for €25,493
To this day the Cheapest Renault Kangoo starts at €25,493, in its Authentic access range and with a 75 HP diesel engine. By financing the purchase at the dealership, it is possible to enjoy even greater discounts.
For this price we can access a Renault Kangoo which, to be honest, is quite Spartan, and with an engine with very low consumption but very contained power, especially if what we want is to travel with the whole family and the vehicle loaded – which is understood to be the goal of a minivan like this. As standard, it includes full led headlights and manual climate control, as well as a very sober aesthetic that does not even include the bumpers in the paint finish of the rest of the body.
Our advice is to aim for a higher version. From €27,122 we can access the Equilibre version with a 95 CV diesel engine, which includes bumpers in body color, roof bars, easy link entertainment system and a 95 CV power engine. This was precisely the version of which we spoke to you in December, of which my colleague Sergio prepared a very complete article on the offer of the Renault Kangoo. Since December, this version has increased its price by just under €500. So it’s still an interesting proposition.
As we told you, the Renault Kangoo is one of those vehicles in which diesel is still interesting, having a diesel engine and very low consumption 1.5 Blue dCi available with 75 CV, 95 CV and 115 CV, with the possibility of configuring the latter, even with a dual-clutch automatic transmission (edc). Renault also offers in its range a no less interesting gasoline engine, the 130 hp 1.3 TCe.
It is a pity that Renault Kangoo does not have a hybrid version, with an ECO label. The Kangoo range does have an electric version, with the Zero Emissions label, but in its Van version (and not Combi), which is the one focused above all on professionals and transport.
Below you can see a video test that we sincerely recommend, in which we compare Renault Kangoo and Volkswagen Caddy and talk about their potential as family vehicles.
