The 2023 is presented as a key year for Volvo and its electrification plans, because throughout this period we will know important electrical innovations in its range. And one of his most interesting releases will be the new Volvo EX30, the brand’s smallest and most affordable electric SUVa car that will seek to lower the range access of the Swedish firm, betting on a B-SUV body whose best alternative will be in the smart #1.
During a recent interview given by the CEO of Volvo, Jim Rowan, to AutomotiveNews, we have been able to learn about the first details about the Volvo EX30. This car is an unprecedented model in the Swedish brand and in fact it has a new name within the new 100% electric range launched by the Volvo EX90, the 100% electric brother of the XC90 and current flagship of the manufacturer.
The Volvo EX30 will be an electric capable of lowering the price of 40,000 euros, although it will also be “sold” by subscription
Volvo’s goal is to make its portfolio of electric cars cheapera range where currently the cheapest options are the Volvo XC40 Recharge with a price from 44,000 euros and the Volvo C40 Recharge with a price from 45,750 euros. To achieve this goal, Volvo will create a new model below these two SUVs, a car that will be smaller in size, but will continue to offer a spacious cabin thanks to the use of Geely’s SEA platform, an architecture that we have already seen. it can give a lot of itself through the smart #1 that we tested very recently.
Starting from this platform, Volvo will manufacture a car that will also be manufactured entirely in China, which will drastically reduce its price. There are more and more European manufacturers who are encouraged to produce cars on Chinese soil and then be imported into Europe, thereby achieving a significant reduction in costs that later manages to lower purchase prices. Thus, the Volvo EX30 that we will see in 2023 will join other European cars made in China such as the Polestar 2, the smart #1, the BMW iX3, the Citroën C5 X or the DS 9.
The Volvo EX30 will be a miniature EX90
The Volvo EX30 will be presented throughout 2023, with 2024 being the most likely date to see it rolling through the streets of Europe. According to the platform used, (SEA by Geely), in its range we will see versions with one or two electric motors and autonomies capable of around 400 km for each full charge. At older we must expect a Strong commitment to infotainment and driving assistantstwo points on which Volvo is placing special emphasis, and that will join a design clearly influenced by the aesthetic released in the EX90.
