The countdown to meet the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato has already started. The new sports car resulting from the combination of the best of Alfa Romeo and Zagato Currently, it is scheduled to be on the streets in 2023, but the Italian coachbuilder has already begun to reveal the first photos on this coupe heir to the Tubolare Zagato saga starting with the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Called to be the sportiest and most exclusive Alfa Romeo since the 8C Competizionetoday we find out more about this interesting project.
The collaboration between Alfa Romeo and Zagato has left us with a good number of sports cars over the past decades.all of them being creations loaded with design and personality, culminating this collaboration in 2011 with the launch of the TZ3 Stradale in a strictly limited series of 9 units.
But now, both Italian firms have decided to collaborate together again, based on the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio/GTA to give life to a new creature. These first images published by Zagato on their social networks give us some clues about the final design of this car, finding us with a hood that will open forwards, the use of the mythical green quadrifoglio four leaves on both flanks, separate air outlets behind the front wheel arches in a clear reference to the 8C and one two-seater configuration for a body that will also have only two doors.
From a technical point of view, once the engine compartment has been unveiled, it is clear that Zagato will keep the 2.9 V6 Twin-Turbo that was once designed by Ferrari. This engine currently offers up to 540 HP of power in the GTA and GTAm versions, but given the exclusive and sportier character of this Giulia SWB Zagato, It would not be unreasonable to think of a power capable of reaching 600 CV.
At the same time, fruit of redesign carried out on the bodywork making intensive use of carbon fiber, the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato may offer an improvement in both weight and performance. If you look at the picture showing the interior, only two front seats can be seen perfectly inside the passenger compartment (Sabelt carbon buckets), canceling the theoretical rear seats as already happens in the GTAm. However, the use of the name SWB (Short Wheel Base) clearly alludes to the chassis modification to shorten the wheelbase and eliminate the two rear doors that the conventional Giulia does offer.
